This smoothie is possibly my favorite part of my morning routine. I’m not kidding, it’s seriously kind of magical. Starting your day with 2 big handfuls of spinach (that you can’t even taste!) is basically giving your body salad for breakfast, along with frozen strawberries (hello antioxidants), oats for a healthy carb to give you energy, flax seeds for a healthy fat, a scoop of protein for... well, protein (and flavor!) and some almond milk and water to blend it all together. It is my absolute favorite way to start the day.
I drink this smoothie right after my workouts when I want something filling and high in protein. I also have a lighter smoothie that is a little lower in calories for non-workout days. I feel so nourished and energized after I drink this. I have my friends and family hooked on it too! I actually think this smoothie changed my husband’s whole outlook on nutrition. Once he incorporated this into his daily routine and felt the positive effects of having healthy food in his system to start the day, he actually stopped wanting processed foods because they would make him feel tired and sluggish. I’m so excited to share this recipe, I hope you love it as much as we do!
Green Smoothie Recipe
Makes 1 serving
2 large handfuls spinach, about 2 cups packed (preferably organic)
5-6 frozen strawberries, about 1/2 cup (also preferably organic)
1/2 cup old fashioned oats
2 T ground flaxseeds
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I love Tone It Up brand Vanilla)
1 cup original vanilla almond milk
1/2 cup cold water
Blend until smooth. I have a Ninja blender that I absolutely love. I run the “smoothie” setting 2 times and it comes out perfect.
I drink this smoothie followed by 32 oz of water with Liquid IV for added electrolytes (I prefer the lemon-lime flavor) after my workouts and I feel nourished, hydrated, and ready to take on my day!
